In preparation for the 2016 State of Young Black New York conference on March 12, our Civics and Economics co-chair Jared Clemons is sharing the woke-est reading from some of our panelists:
By D. Watkins
In many ways, Baltimore has become the poster child for racial injustice and civil unrest. Why is that? And what can we do improve the plight of those who often become mired in an abyss of hopelessness? D. Watkins, a Baltimore native who was able to free himself from the shackles poverty en route to a career in academia, shares his thoughts in this no-frills, honest memoir. This is a must read not only for Black America, but for anyone who wants to understand why so few people of color are fortunate enough to follow D. Watkins’ social trajectory.
